Who we are:

We are a team of volunteer union leaders building power to shut down all forms of racism. We work to cultivate change, provide education and create a support system in our hospitals. We are trained, confident and ready to intervene to support co-workers when racism occurs. We are building unity among union members from many identities to strengthen our collective power. We are:

What we do:

What can union members do about the racism we experience?

  1. Document our experiences
You can fill out this form (www.seiuhcmnia.org/discrimination) to document any discrimination you experience at work. What you write on this form will not be shared with your employer unless SEIU leaders/staff have your permission. A copy will be emailed to you and saved in internal records at our union office to support grievances, identify patterns, and strategize solutions.
  2. Build Solidarity and Take Action Together
Racism is a part of the daily culture at work and employers retaliate against those who speak out or organize. We can shut this down by building solidarity with co-workers and taking actions together to demand workplaces free from racism, where all of us are valued, respected and seen for our unique identities.
  3. Know and Enforce Our Rights
We have the right to workplaces free from discrimination. These rights are established in our union contracts and by state and federal laws. We can enforce our rights through the grievance process and in the courts.
  4. Negotiate to win more rights.
We can establish more protections in our union contract through negotiation.
